Fabuly: Podcasts Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-05

This policy applies to the Fabuly: Podcasts Android and iOS applications. It does not replace the policies of Reader, the separate Fabuly audiobook application, podcast publishers, or app stores. Visiting the Fabuly marketing and policy website at fabuly.io is also subject to that website's Cookie Policy.

Quick summary

  • Your followed shows, saved episodes, queue, listening progress, recent history, preferences, and downloaded audio are stored on your device. Fabuly: Podcasts has no account system or cloud-library synchronization.
  • Home personalization uses your library on your device. You can turn it off in Settings.
  • Catalog searches send your search terms to Apple and Podcast Index. Browsing, streaming, and downloading also connect to podcast publishers and their feed, artwork, and audio providers. Those services receive connection information, including your IP address and the resources requested.
  • Fabuly: Podcasts does not integrate its own analytics or crash-reporting service, advertising SDK, or advertising identifier tracking. Podcast publishers can include advertising in their audio and use their own delivery and measurement services.
  • We receive personal information you choose to send us, such as an email requesting support. We do not sell your personal information or use your listening library to train models.

Fabuly AI SAS is responsible for the personal information we process to operate Fabuly: Podcasts and respond to support requests. Directory providers, podcast publishers, media hosts, and app platforms may be independently responsible for information they receive under their own policies.

Information the app processes

Your local library, preferences, and downloads

The app stores followed shows, saved episodes, queue entries, recent listening, episode positions and completion states, playback speed, appearance, Home personalization preferences, and recent Creators searches. It also keeps show and episode details, source addresses, artwork caches, and cached browsing information needed to display or recover the library.

When you download an episode, the app stores the audio, episode details, transfer status, file sizes, download errors, partial-transfer recovery information where available, and your mobile-data preference. Downloaded audio is held in app-private storage. Saving an episode or caching its details does not download its audio.

The app does not upload this library to a Fabuly server or synchronize it with another device, Reader, or the Fabuly audiobook application. Local Library search matches information on your device without sending its search text to a directory. Opening a result can still request feeds, artwork, or audio as described below.

Home can order existing catalog choices using the topics of shows you follow, episodes you save, and recent listening. This ranking runs locally; the app does not send your library to a recommendation service. Turning off Home personalization changes that ordering without deleting your library. This feature does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Catalog search and discovery

The app requests podcast charts and show details from Apple's podcast services. Catalog searches in Search and Creators send the query to Apple and Podcast Index. Searches can start after a short typing pause; choosing a topic or listening-intention shortcut in Search can also submit a catalog query.

These requests go directly from your device to the providers. They include the search term or requested show and chart identifiers, and ordinary technical information such as your IP address, request time, and client information. Do not include passwords or other secrets in a search query.

Podcast Index states that direct API requests from podcast apps are recorded in server logs containing IP addresses, app or browser type and language, request dates and times, query parameters, and location information supplied by its caching provider, Cloudflare. Its Privacy Policy states that these logs are held internationally and automatically deleted after 90 days. Other providers have their own practices and retention periods.

Recent Creators searches are saved locally and can be cleared in the app. Clearing that local history does not remove requests already received by directory providers. The app also caches some results locally to avoid repeating requests unnecessarily.

Publisher feeds, artwork, streaming, and downloads

The app retrieves show and episode information from publishers' feeds and loads artwork from the addresses supplied with that content. These requests can occur while browsing, before you choose to play an episode.

Streaming and downloading connect to the publisher's audio address. Feed, artwork, or audio requests may be redirected through hosting, content-delivery, or publisher measurement services. The services handling a request receive your IP address, the requested address or episode, request timing, and normal client and transfer information. Those requests can reveal which shows or episodes interest you.

Publishers may include advertisements or sponsorships in episodes, including advertisements selected by their delivery services. The app does not add its own advertisements or send a Fabuly advertising profile to publishers. Publisher and hosting practices are governed by their own policies; this policy does not promise that they make no logs or measurements.

Completed downloads allow local audio playback. Other activity in the app, such as refreshing a browsing screen or loading artwork, can still make network requests while you listen to a downloaded episode. The download mobile-data preference controls episode downloads; it does not disable all network activity or mobile-data use by streaming and browsing.

Device services and media controls

Fabuly: Podcasts uses operating-system networking, storage, playback, background-transfer, and notification services. Android may request notification permission for playback and download notifications. You can manage applicable permissions and network access in your device settings.

The app can provide show and episode titles, artwork, playback position, and playback state to system media controls and compatible connected-car interfaces when available. People who can see your lock screen, notifications, or connected display may see that information.

Apple and Google may process app-distribution, platform, or diagnostic information according to their policies and your device settings. The app does not include its own analytics or crash-reporting SDK; that does not prevent diagnostics handled separately by the operating system or app store.

Support and external links

If you contact us by email, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments or diagnostic details you choose to send. We use them to respond, investigate the issue, and handle related follow-up. We do not automatically receive your local library with a support request. Please send only the information needed to explain the problem.

If you open an external website or app-store page, that service receives the request and applies its own privacy policy. The separate fabuly.io website has its own cookie and analytics practices; the statements about the native podcast app do not replace its cookie choices.

How we use information and our legal bases

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on:

  • Providing the service you request: processing necessary to deliver requested app features and support about the service, under GDPR Article 6(1)(b).
  • Legitimate interests: responding to general enquiries, diagnosing reported problems, protecting the service against abuse, and handling claims, while balancing these interests against your rights, under Article 6(1)(f).
  • Legal obligations: responding to valid legal requirements and keeping records where required by law, under Article 6(1)(c).
  • Consent where required: optional processing that legally requires your consent, under Article 6(1)(a). You may withdraw that consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Acknowledging this policy does not authorize unrelated advertising or optional processing. Third parties are responsible for the legal bases of processing they carry out independently.

Third parties and sharing

The main services relevant to the app are:

  • Apple: podcast charts, directory search, show details, and Apple platform services. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Podcast Index: supplementary podcast directory search. See the Podcast Index Privacy Policy.
  • Podcast publishers and their providers: feed information, artwork, audio delivery, and any publisher advertising or measurement. Consult the relevant publisher's and provider's policies.
  • Google and Apple app platforms: app distribution, operating-system services, permissions, and diagnostics under your platform settings. See Google's Privacy Policy and Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Email providers: delivery and handling of support correspondence you choose to send.

We may share information we hold with providers needed to handle support, where legally required, or where necessary to establish or defend legal claims and protect rights or security. A business transfer may involve service-related information we hold, subject to applicable law and appropriate notice. Your device-only library does not become a server-side library because of such a transfer.

International processing

Your local library remains where your device stores it. Directory, publisher, delivery, platform, and email services may process connection or correspondence information outside your country, including outside the EEA or UK.

For international transfers we arrange that require safeguards, appropriate safeguards must apply, such as an applicable adequacy decision or approved contractual clauses. Contact us for information about the arrangements applicable to information handled by us. Independent providers describe their own processing locations and safeguards in their policies.

How long information is kept

  • Local library, preferences, and downloads: kept on your device until removed through the relevant app controls or when the app's data is deleted. Removing downloaded audio preserves the corresponding saved-episode and listening-progress information.
  • Cached browsing data, artwork, and transfer-recovery files: kept as needed for display, reuse, or recovery, and may be replaced or cleared by the app or operating system. Clearing cached browsing data is different from deleting your library or completed downloads.
  • Support correspondence and related records held by us: kept as needed to resolve the request, provide related follow-up, and meet applicable legal or dispute-resolution requirements. Relevant records may be kept longer for an unresolved incident or claim.

Directory providers, publishers, media hosts, and app platforms set their own retention periods. Deleting local app data does not delete information previously received by them or messages you sent us.

Your choices, deletion, and backups

You can unfollow shows, remove saved episodes or queue entries, clear recent Creators searches, and pause or remove downloads through the app. You can turn Home personalization on or off in Settings and choose whether episode downloads may use mobile data. Device settings provide additional controls for notifications and network access.

There is no Fabuly: Podcasts account to delete. Removing the app's data through your device settings, or deleting the app where the operating system also removes its data, removes the remaining local library and settings. Offloading an app or removing its icon may preserve data, depending on your platform. We cannot remotely erase or restore a library held only on your device.

The app configures its native library and download storage to be excluded from normal operating-system app backups. This does not guarantee that a device owner, administrator, or other backup tool cannot make copies. Fabuly: Podcasts is not a backup service, and reinstalling or changing devices does not restore your library from Fabuly.

Your privacy rights

Depending on applicable law, you may ask to access, correct, erase, restrict, or receive a portable copy of personal information we hold about you. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent where processing relies on it. These rights are subject to applicable legal conditions and exceptions.

Contact joseph@fabuly.io. We may request information reasonably needed to verify and handle your request. We cannot identify or access your local listening library from your email address; use the app or device settings to manage those copies. Requests about information held independently by a directory, publisher, or app platform should also be directed to that provider.

You may complain to the CNIL in France or another competent data protection authority, including the authority where you live or work in the EEA. You do not have to complain to us first.

Children

Use of the app is subject to the eligibility requirements in its Terms of Use and applicable app-store age restrictions. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent personal information to us, contact us so we can review and address it. A child's local library must be managed on that device by its user or guardian.

Security

The app uses private application storage and platform networking services. Directory requests use HTTPS. Some publishers provide HTTP feed, artwork, or audio addresses; those connections do not provide the same transport protection as HTTPS.

No system is completely secure. Protect your device, keep its software updated, and review information before sending it in a support message. Other apps and device administrators operate under their own permissions.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app's features or data practices change. The date and version above identify the current text. We will provide additional notice or seek consent where required by law. For questions, contact joseph@fabuly.io.
