Meet O. Henry

O. Henry, born William Sydney Porter, led a life as colorful as his stories. Born on September 11th, 1862, in Greensboro, North Carolina, he initially worked various jobs before eventually finding his calling as a writer.

Life before becoming a writer
O. Henry initially worked as a clerk in a drugstore and later transitioned to a position as a teller at the First National Bank in Austin. However, his career took a dramatic turn when he was imprisoned for embezzlement, during which he penned many of his famous tales. Despite his troubled past, O.Henry’s stories have earned him a place among America’s literary greats, and his legacy lives on through the annual O. Henry Award for outstanding short stories.
