Charles Perrault (1628 – 1703) was a French author. He is known for creating the fairy tale genre, inspired by old folk stories. “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Puss in Boots” are among his most famous writings. Perrault also was a member of the Académie Française, and he worked for King Louis XIV as head of the Royal Propaganda Service. He helped popularize the use of the expression “once upon a time” in fairy tales. Perrault’s work is still read by children and adults alike nowadays, and it has inspired many authors such as the Brothers Grimm.
