Charles John Huffam Dickens (1812 – 1870) was an English novelist and journalist, seen as one of the greatest writers of the Victorian era. His novels depict a faithful portrait of the 19th century and its hardships. Read by young and old, rich and poor, he was already famous during his lifetime, and is still popular nowadays, known for works such as “David Copperfield” and “A Christmas Carol”. He was also an advocate for many social causes such as children’s rights.
